I started noticing the phenomen a while ago when more people joined up and Sven pointed out to me again today : we have a forum security problem. The forum comes up in all kinds of searches and it is very easy to search the forum without being a member and find threads and pictures ... Unfortunately there's no way to stop it with the forum's tools.

How does everybody feel about this? Should we call it quits? Should we just limit some of our posts?

The only real solutions would be:

*) find a really secured forum that's free (I'm open to ideas on this);
*) code a secured forum (in the planning, but won't see the light of day before some time).

Sorry for this big inconvinence. I'll do what I can to solution it.

Yeah well we have to do something. Because we can't of course post previews to online competitions News/rumours and such when the pictures can be accessible.

I suggest to first remove all threads or posts containing stuff we don't want to be official just yet. Like rumours and stuff and previews. IMO I think it's best to remove previews to older "online" competitions as well to not stirr up any controversies that can be misinterpretated. GD stuff or other minis doesn't matter of course to me..

Then keep the forum and limit ourselves what we say/post pictures of until we find a new forum.

But is there a forum that can be made secured? What about yahoo groups or such?

How do you feel about that?

I'll be doing that over the coming up days.

Yep. Wyrd's looks pretty good for that but it's not free. And I've already developed equivalent software that was secured (but I can't use it as is Razz).

That's a possibility, but it needs some testing.

At the present there's no big rush to remove stuff as there aren't anything that's currently "secret" so to speak... Not that I can think of, at least. And, as no problems have ocurred yet, I don't think there would be any fuss about something that's allready passed (like Wyrd competitions...).

But, a secure forum would be nice, of course.

yeah, would be nice to have something more secure, it kind of defeats the purpose of the whole thing if it's both not secure and we have to limit what we can post, doesn't it? Smile

I'm probably the least technical minded of us here...so I'm mostly just happy to follow where we go!

I do have some upcoming GD entries posted, I suppose I could take those down, since i'm not going to canada anymore...start a new GD LA thread with the photos once it's more secure.

I think just because nothing has happened yet doesn't mean that some arsehole won't "out" this forum in public, post links and claim that voting might have been skewed or that we are part of the da vinci conspiracy.. Wink I don't say it's very probable though.. but it is a possibility I rather avoid with some simple measures.
